Levels from 1400 up are the engine’s own strength limiter. Below it the limiter does not work — Stockfish silently clamps anything under 1320 to its minimum — so the weaker levels are made another way, and their numbers come from measured matches, not from a wish. Treat them as approximate.

What is Chess960?
Chess960 (also known as Fischer random chess) is a chess variant where the back-rank pieces start in one of 960 possible arrangements. Opening memorization matters less — understanding the position matters more.
Is CH960 really free?
Yes. Games, ratings, tournaments, lessons, puzzles and the 1000-day course are all free — no ads, no purchases, no tracking. The client is open source under GPLv3.
How does castling work in Chess960?
The king and rook always land on the same squares as in classical chess (g1/c1 for White), no matter where they started. In the app you castle by dragging the king onto the rook.
Can I use CH960 offline?
Yes, in the app: lessons, puzzles and the 1000-day course work without internet; it is only needed for games with people.
