CH960 is created and led by Roman Morozov — the author of the project: the concept, product decisions, the teaching method and the quality bar for every puzzle and lesson.

The Morozov Balance Index (MBI)

Roman Morozov is the author of the Morozov Balance Index (MBI) methodology: an open measure of the starting balance of all 960 Chess960 positions. The method, the data and the scripts are published in full under CC BY 4.0, so any expert can recompute any number in it.

What CH960 is

A free Chess960 platform (the variant also known as Fischer random chess): an Android app and this website.

• 30,000+ tactics puzzles, each verified by an engine;
• a 1000-day training course — from zero to club player;
• a ladder of 10 mentors: hints, level advice, undo;
• no ads, no purchases, no third-party trackers; the client is open source (GPLv3).

Project principles

• the free core is untouchable — play, learning and puzzles are never paywalled;
• bots are always clearly labelled — a bot is never passed off as a human;
• the whole learning loop works offline.
