Endless puzzles that follow you
Solve, and the next puzzle is picked for you — by how long this one took, not by a level you had to choose. Nothing to set up, nothing to sign up for: the board is already here.
The solution
How the stream tunes itself
There are no levels to pick here, and no score to chase. Every puzzle is timed, and the time you took is the whole signal: solve quickly and the stream moves up, take long and it moves a little; miss, skip or run out of time and it steps back. The steps are deliberately small, so what you feel is not a ladder but puzzles that happen to be about right for you.
Variety is enforced, not hoped for: never more than two puzzles of one group in a row, at least five different groups in every ten, and the same motif does not come back immediately. Every seventh puzzle is noticeably easier — and if you miss three in a row, the easy one comes at once. Thirty thousand puzzles in the pool, so nothing repeats.
This is the same “Flow” the Android app has, and the same code chooses: the algorithm lives in the shared rules library, so the browser and the app pick alike. The pool is the project’s own puzzles plus the Lichess base (CC0), each solution verified by an engine.
Your progress is kept in this browser only. Picking the next puzzle happens on the server, which receives nothing but the current difficulty and the ids of your recent puzzles — no account, no profile, nothing stored.
