How to recognize this tactic
A skewer is a pin reversed — the valuable piece stands in front and, when it moves, the piece behind falls. Line your rook, bishop or queen up against the king or queen and win whatever is hiding behind it.
General method: before you move, list the forcing candidates — every check, every capture, every direct threat — and calculate those first. The solution to a tactic is almost always among them.
The position in numbers
White are ahead by 2 points of material (13 against 11; pawn = 1, knight and bishop = 3, rook = 5, queen = 9) — the tactic has to convert or outweigh that.
The white king stands on b4, the black king on h5.
It is Black to move on move 56, with 16 legal replies to weigh — only the line that keeps the advantage solves the puzzle.
White keeps 3 pawns, Black 3. Files fully open (no pawns of either colour): b, c, g, h — natural highways for the rooks and queen. Half-open for Black: e.
The Black king has 2 empty squares to step to right now — the fewer they are, the closer a mating net.
Solución y explicación
Línea principal
56... Rb3+ 57. Kc5 Rxb8
Por qué funciona
- ¡Gran jugada! torre a b3 mantiene la presión (+2.9).
- ¡Gran jugada! torre a b8 mantiene la presión (+2.9).
- Ganas una pieza: torre.
- Si en cambio Kc5, entonces Rxb8 y ganas torre.
Move by move
- 56… Rb3+ — torre to b3 with check
- 57. Kc5 — rey to c5
- Rxb8 — torre to b8 (capture)
Tipos en este problema
Enfilada
