How to recognize this tactic
A fork is one piece attacking two targets at once. Look for a knight, pawn or queen move that lands where it hits the king (or a bigger piece) and a second undefended unit on the same turn — the opponent can save only one.
General method: before you move, list the forcing candidates — every check, every capture, every direct threat — and calculate those first. The solution to a tactic is almost always among them.

通路兵：前方和相邻两列都没有敌兵的兵——能拦住它的只有棋子。查一查谁能堵在它路上、谁的王能追上它——如果谁也不能，它就值一整个子。推进通路兵要有棋子支援，车要放在它身后。新手的错误是毫无支援地把兵直推到对方嘴边。
反击
别忙着防守——用更大的威胁回敬对手。
反击：面对威胁你的回应不是防守，而是自己的威胁——更强的那种。趁对手吃你的兵，你宣布将杀：这笔账算在你这边。当直接防守都不好时寻找反击：你有没有将军、攻后的手段、做杀的威胁？新手的错误是对每个威胁都条件反射地防守，从不先查一查对攻资源。
