How to recognize this tactic
A fork is one piece attacking two targets at once. Look for a knight, pawn or queen move that lands where it hits the king (or a bigger piece) and a second undefended unit on the same turn — the opponent can save only one.
General method: before you move, list the forcing candidates — every check, every capture, every direct threat — and calculate those first. The solution to a tactic is almost always among them.

終盤にも手筋は生きています——駒が少なくても一撃を狙いましょう。
戦術はクイーンが消えても引退しません。フォーク、ピン、ダブルアタックは終盤でも生きています。残る駒が少ないため、ここでの戦術的損失はほぼ必ず決定打になります。目印はいつもどおりです。守られていない駒、一直線上のキングと駒、昇格寸前のポーン。たとえ「技術的な」終盤でも、一手ごとに自分と相手の両方の狙いの一撃を探しましょう。
