How to recognize this tactic
In Chess960 the pieces start on unfamiliar squares, so tactics appear earlier and from unusual angles. Do not trust classical patterns — read the actual lines of the bishops, the rooks and the queen from where they really stand in this position.
This position hides a concrete tactic that wins material or mates. Start with the most forcing candidate moves — checks, captures and threats — and calculate each to a clear end before choosing; the winning line is usually the one the opponent cannot meet.
General method: before you move, list the forcing candidates — every check, every capture, every direct threat — and calculate those first. The solution to a tactic is almost always among them.
Position sur l'échiquier
Blancs : roi f1, dame d2, tour c1 e1, fou g2, cavalier b4, pion a2 b2 h2 g3 f4.
Noirs : roi d7, dame b6, tour c8 f8, fou e2 h8, pion d5 f5 e6 b7 h7.
The position in numbers
Material is level — 30 points of pieces on each side (pawn = 1, knight and bishop = 3, rook = 5, queen = 9).
The white king stands on f1, the black king on d7.
It is White to move on move 22, with 3 legal replies to weigh — only the line that keeps the advantage solves the puzzle. White are in check right now, so every reply must answer the check.
White keeps 5 pawns, Black 5. Files fully open (no pawns of either colour): c — natural highways for the rooks and queen. Half-open for White: d, e.
Black hold the bishop pair, an edge in open lines. The White king has 1 empty squares to step to right now — the fewer they are, the closer a mating net.
Solution et explication
Ligne principale
22. Kxe2 Rxc1 23. Rxc1
Pourquoi ça marche
- Excellent coup ! roi en e2 maintient la pression (+4.2).
- Excellent coup ! tour en c1 maintient la pression (+4.2).
- Vous gagnez une pièce : tour.
- Si à la place Rxc1, alors Rxc1 et vous gagnez tour.
Move by move
- 22. Kxe2 — roi to e2 (capture)
- Rxc1 — tour to c1 (capture)
- 23. Rxc1 — tour to c1 (capture)
Types de ce problème
Coup gagnant
