Le motif tactique
Fourchette : une pièce attaque deux cibles à la fois — impossible de sauver les deux.

How to recognize this tactic
A fork is one piece attacking two targets at once. Look for a knight, pawn or queen move that lands where it hits the king (or a bigger piece) and a second undefended unit on the same turn — the opponent can save only one.
General method: before you move, list the forcing candidates — every check, every capture, every direct threat — and calculate those first. The solution to a tactic is almost always among them.
Position sur l'échiquier
Blancs : roi f1, dame g4, cavalier c3 e5, pion a2 b2 g2 h2 d3 e4.
Noirs : roi c7, dame e7, cavalier c2, pion c5 e6 h6 a7 b7 g7.
Il y a 10 pièces blanches et 9 noires sur l'échiquier ; la position du problème survient après le coup 21.
The position in numbers
White are ahead by 3 points of material (21 against 18; pawn = 1, knight and bishop = 3, rook = 5, queen = 9) — the tactic has to convert or outweigh that.
The white king stands on f1, the black king on c7.
It is Black to move on move 21, with 28 legal replies to weigh — only the line that keeps the advantage solves the puzzle.
White keeps 6 pawns, Black 6. Files fully open (no pawns of either colour): f — natural highways for the rooks and queen. Half-open for Black: d.
The Black king has 5 empty squares to step to right now — the fewer they are, the closer a mating net.
Solution et explication
Ligne principale
21... Ne3+ 22. Ke2 Nxg4
Pourquoi ça marche
- Excellent coup ! cavalier en e3 maintient la pression (+5.1).
- Excellent coup ! cavalier en g4 maintient la pression (+5.2).
- Vous gagnez une pièce : dame.
- Si à la place Ke2, alors Nxg4 et vous gagnez dame.
Move by move
- 21… Ne3+ — cavalier to e3 with check
- 22. Ke2 — roi to e2
- Nxg4 — cavalier to g4 (capture)
Types de ce problème
Fourchette royale
