How to recognize this tactic
Mate in two usually opens with a forcing move — a check, a capture or an unstoppable threat — that strips the king of squares or defenders, so the follow-up mate becomes unavoidable. Look for the first move that leaves the opponent only losing replies.
General method: before you move, list the forcing candidates — every check, every capture, every direct threat — and calculate those first. The solution to a tactic is almost always among them.
Posição no tabuleiro
Brancas: rei g1, dama e2, torre a1 d1, bispo b2 b5, cavalo d2, peão f2 h2 b3 g3 a4 d4.
Pretas: rei g8, dama b7, torre a8 f8, bispo d6, cavalo b4 g5, peão c5 e5 f6 g7 h7.
Há 13 peças brancas e 12 pretas no tabuleiro; a posição do problema surge após o lance 21.
The position in numbers
White are ahead by 1 points of material (34 against 33; pawn = 1, knight and bishop = 3, rook = 5, queen = 9) — the tactic has to convert or outweigh that.
The white king stands on g1, the black king on g8.
It is Black to move on move 21, with 53 legal replies to weigh — only the line that keeps the advantage solves the puzzle.
White keeps 6 pawns, Black 5. No file is fully open, so the heavy pieces have to be pried in. Half-open for Black: a, b, d.
White hold the bishop pair, an edge in open lines. The Black king has 2 empty squares to step to right now — the fewer they are, the closer a mating net.
Solução e explicação
Linha principal
21... Nh3+ 22. Kf1 Qh1#
Por que funciona
- Ótimo lance! cavalo para h3 mantém a pressão (#1).
- Ótimo lance! dama para h1 mantém a pressão (#).
- A linha termina em mate forçado em 2.
- Se em vez disso Kf1, então Qh1# e é mate.
Move by move
- 21… Nh3+ — cavalo to h3 with check
- 22. Kf1 — rei to f1
- Qh1# — dama to h1 and it is checkmate
Tipos neste problema
