How to recognize this tactic
A pin freezes a piece in front of a more valuable one behind it. Scan the ranks, files and diagonals your bishop, rook or queen controls: if an enemy piece cannot move without exposing its king or queen, it is pinned and can be piled on or bypassed.
General method: before you move, list the forcing candidates — every check, every capture, every direct threat — and calculate those first. The solution to a tactic is almost always among them.
Position sur l'échiquier
Blancs : roi g1, dame d4, tour a1, fou c1, cavalier f3, pion g2 a3 b3 d3 h3 b4.
Noirs : roi g8, dame d5, tour a8, fou c7, cavalier b8, pion f6 a7 b7 g7.
Il y a 11 pièces blanches et 9 noires sur l'échiquier ; la position du problème survient après le coup 25.
The position in numbers
White are ahead by 2 points of material (26 against 24; pawn = 1, knight and bishop = 3, rook = 5, queen = 9) — the tactic has to convert or outweigh that.
The white king stands on g1, the black king on g8.
It is Black to move on move 25, with 40 legal replies to weigh — only the line that keeps the advantage solves the puzzle.
White keeps 6 pawns, Black 4. Files fully open (no pawns of either colour): c, e — natural highways for the rooks and queen. Half-open for Black: d, h.
The Black king has 4 empty squares to step to right now — the fewer they are, the closer a mating net.
Solution et explication
Ligne principale
25... Bb6 26. Qxb6 axb6
Pourquoi ça marche
- Excellent coup ! fou en b6 maintient la pression (+5.4).
- Excellent coup ! pion en b6 maintient la pression (+5.5).
- Vous gagnez une pièce : dame.
- Si à la place Qxb6, alors axb6 et vous gagnez dame.
Move by move
- 25… Bb6 — fou to b6
- 26. Qxb6 — dame to b6 (capture)
- axb6 — pion to b6 (capture)
Types de ce problème
Coup tranquille
