How to recognize this tactic
A pin freezes a piece in front of a more valuable one behind it. Scan the ranks, files and diagonals your bishop, rook or queen controls: if an enemy piece cannot move without exposing its king or queen, it is pinned and can be piled on or bypassed.
General method: before you move, list the forcing candidates — every check, every capture, every direct threat — and calculate those first. The solution to a tactic is almost always among them.
Position sur l'échiquier
Blancs : roi g1, dame b7, tour d1 f1, fou e3 c4, cavalier c3, pion a2 b2 f2 g2 e5.
Noirs : roi g8, dame g4, tour a8 f8, fou h3, cavalier f6 b8, pion h6 a7 c7 f7 g7.
The position in numbers
Material is level — 33 points of pieces on each side (pawn = 1, knight and bishop = 3, rook = 5, queen = 9).
The white king stands on g1, the black king on g8.
It is Black to move on move 15, with 39 legal replies to weigh — only the line that keeps the advantage solves the puzzle.
White keeps 5 pawns, Black 5. Files fully open (no pawns of either colour): d — natural highways for the rooks and queen. Half-open for Black: b, e.
White hold the bishop pair, an edge in open lines. The Black king has 2 empty squares to step to right now — the fewer they are, the closer a mating net.
Solution et explication
Ligne principale
15... c6 16. Qxf7+ Rxf7
Pourquoi ça marche
- Excellent coup ! pion en c6 maintient la pression (+6.5).
- Excellent coup ! tour en f7 maintient la pression (#6).
- Vous gagnez une pièce : dame.
- Si à la place Qxf7+, alors Rxf7 et vous gagnez dame.
Move by move
- 15… c6 — pion to c6
- 16. Qxf7+ — dame to f7 (capture) with check
- Rxf7 — tour to f7 (capture)
Types de ce problème
Coup tranquille
