How to recognize this tactic

A hanging piece is one that is attacked and not defended, or defended too few times. Count attackers against defenders on each enemy unit; where attackers win, take it — often with an in-between move or a check to gain the extra tempo.

General method: before you move, list the forcing candidates — every check, every capture, every direct threat — and calculate those first. The solution to a tactic is almost always among them.

Posição no tabuleiro

Brancas: rei g1, dama d1, torre a1 f1, bispo c1 h7, cavalo f3, peão a2 b2 f2 g2 h2.

Pretas: rei g8, dama e7, torre a8 f8, bispo g4, cavalo c6 d6, peão a7 b7 c7 f7 g7.

Há 12 peças brancas e 12 pretas no tabuleiro; a posição do problema surge após o lance 13.

The position in numbers

Material is level — 33 points of pieces on each side (pawn = 1, knight and bishop = 3, rook = 5, queen = 9).

The white king stands on g1, the black king on g8.

It is Black to move on move 13, with 2 legal replies to weigh — only the line that keeps the advantage solves the puzzle. Black are in check right now, so every reply must answer the check.

White keeps 5 pawns, Black 5. Files fully open (no pawns of either colour): d, e — natural highways for the rooks and queen. Half-open for Black: h.

White hold the bishop pair, an edge in open lines. The Black king has 2 empty squares to step to right now — the fewer they are, the closer a mating net.

Solução e explicação

Linha principal

13... Kxh7 14. Ng5+ Qxg5 15. Bxg5 Bxd1

Por que funciona

  • Ótimo lance! rei para h7 mantém a pressão (+4.7).
  • Ótimo lance! dama para g5 mantém a pressão (+4.7).
  • Ótimo lance! bispo para d1 mantém a pressão (+4.8).
  • Você ganha uma peça: dama.
  • Se em vez disso Ng5+, então Qxg5 e você ganha bispo.

Move by move

  • 13… Kxh7 — rei to h7 (capture)
  • 14. Ng5+ — cavalo to g5 with check
  • Qxg5 — dama to g5 (capture)
  • 15. Bxg5 — bispo to g5 (capture)
  • Bxd1 — bispo to d1 (capture)

Golpe vencedor
